"Nui" means large, important or singular. "Lomi Lomi Nui" can thus be translated as "the great strong knead". Shaman healers traditionally used the "Hawaiian Temple massage" as an element in supporting one's healing. It was performed in rituals like initiation, and was predominantly provided for leaders and kings, because a relaxed king would never be furious.
